Two permanent posts have become available at Durham’s newest visitor attraction located in Akley Heads – The Light. This venue is where science, art and culture meet.

 

These roles are 11.25hr contracts, therefore guaranteeing this amount of work per week, however there is opportunity for a lot more hours should you need it. The working pattern can be discussed further at the interview stage and will include some weekend working.

  

Durham County Council are seeking a dedicated and reliable Presentation Assistant to join this venue’s team. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals from all walks of life, including those seeking additional income, experienced cleaners, students, and retirees.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

  • Perform general cleaning duties and tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming, to a high standard.
  • Maintain cleanliness in assigned areas such as galleries, meeting rooms, toilets, public spaces and the office.
  • Engage in customer service with venue visitors when required, answering basic questions when needed.
  • Ensure that all cleaning equipment and machinery is kept cleaned, well maintained, and stored correctly.
  • Request any supplies to be ordered and report any maintenance issues or repairs to the duty manager.
  • Responsible for building security (where required), which is primarily the setting of alarms and locking/unlocking of gates and shutters.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

  • You will need basic literacy and numeracy skills, as well as experience of general cleaning activities (this does not need to be from a previous presetnation job), as well as the following skills and qualities:
  • Capable of carrying out instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Competent in completing paperwork as required.
  • Proficient in using initiative to prioritize tasks.
  • Able to work unsupervised.
  • Have a nice demeanour with people – both visitors and fellow team members.
