Northern Education Trust (NET) is a charitable education trust with an excellent track record for school improvement. The trust currently sponsors 30 academies: 17 secondary and 13 primaries across the North of England in fourteen local authority regions.

The trust exists to transform the life chances of children and young people. We believe technology, data and artificial intelligence can play a decisive part in that mission, and we’re looking for an exceptional leader to make it happen.

This is a rare chance to set the digital and data vision for a large, ambitious multi-academy trust. You will lead how we use technology in the classroom, how we turn data into insight that changes outcomes, and how we adopt AI safely and boldly. Your work will reach thousands of students and staff across our academies.

The Role

You will create and deliver a multi-year digital, data and educational technology strategy that keeps the trust ahead of the sector. Line managing our director of IT & infrastructure and our trust digital and data teams, you will bring systems, infrastructure, and insight together as one.

You will turn assessment, attendance, and progress data into clear, actionable intelligence for leaders and teachers. That includes pioneering predictive analytics that spot students at risk early and point to the interventions that matter most. You will lead our approach to AI, from policy and governance through to pilots that reduce workload and personalise learning.

Holding executive accountability for cyber resilience and DfE Digital and Technology Standards compliance, you will make sure that every academy that joins us benefits from trust systems and insight from day one.

Crucially, this is an executive leadership position focused on transformation, strategy, and change management.

About You

• A strategic digital leader with a track record of leading transformation in a complex, multi-site organisation, ideally in education or the wider public sector.

• A data champion who can build high-performing analytics teams and make data meaningful to non-specialists.

• An informed innovator with a strong grasp of AI, emerging technology and the ethical, safeguarding and data protection responsibilities that come with them.

• A confident executive with experience of budgets, procurement, and major supplier contracts.

• A people leader who inspires teams, builds capability, and brings educational, operational, and technical colleagues together.

Northern Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

In accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education, an online search will be completed on all shortlisted applicants prior to interview. Any relevant information will be discussed further with the applicant during the interview process.

The trust is committed to considering flexible working requests and to safer recruitment practice. Pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. All posts are subject to enhanced disclosure and barring service checks. We expect all adults to share our commitment to safeguarding and the health and wellbeing of our students.
