About the job

This is a varied role, combining hands-on content creation with media handling, social media management and campaign delivery.

You will be responsible for sourcing, researching and producing high-quality content for external audiences, with a strong focus on short-form video/reels and visual storytelling. This includes filming and editing content for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, writing captions and scripts, and producing accurate and compelling written content for our website. You will ensure all content reflects the professionalism of the Service, is legally compliant (with guidance from senior team members) and can be adapted across digital, press and internal channels.

Our social media channels are well established, with 100,000 followers across platforms, including a TikTok audience of over 40,000. You will play a key role in maintaining and growing this presence in the most creative and appropriate ways possible.

Alongside content creation, you will identify opportunities to promote key safety messages through media and partnerships, assist with responding to press enquiries and begin building strong relationships with journalists. You will also contribute to campaigns, support internal communications and capture content at incidents and events.

Working closely with operational crews and colleagues, you will help create authentic, impactful content that connects with our communities.

This is a perfect 12-month opportunity for someone with the right skillset who is brimming with ideas and confidence and looking to take their first step into the world of comms.

Key responsibilities

  • Champion our ethos while bringing a fresh perspective and a creative approach to communications across the organisation.
  • Assist with the day-to-day running of a press office.
  • Communicate with firefighters and staff in effective, fun and meaningful ways.
  • Help build on bold and innovative social media and public engagement.

Ideal Person Profile

  • Graduate looking for a first communications role or an experienced self-starter with experience working in social media.
  • Someone with the confidence and creative vision to encourage staff to join in and star in content.
  • Someone friendly, approachable and with the skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and press.

In return the post offers 27 days annual leave, flexible/hybrid working, free on-site gym access, free car parking, salary sacrifice schemes and a pension scheme.

This is a 12-month internship and it’s OK not to know everything, this is your chance to learn and grow.
