About the role

We’re looking for a Service Designers across multiple levels to join our Service Design and Digital Adoption team within the Transformation service at North Yorkshire Council.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and improvement of services that impact thousands of residents.

You’ll work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, supported by experienced senior colleagues and a manager who is committed to your development and progression.

You’ll help teams understand people’s needs, map how services work now, spot where things are difficult, and test better ways of working before changes are made.

As a Service Designer, you will:

• Support the design and improvement of services using user-centred design principles

• Work with colleagues to understand user needs and service challenges

• Contribute to key service design activities such as user research, journey mapping and prototyping

• Help facilitate workshops and collaborative sessions with stakeholders

• Support the promotion of service design best practice across the organisation

At a Senior Level you will:

• Be educated to degree level (Level 5) or equivalent experience.

• Have experience selecting and applying service design methods from discovery through to implementation.

As a Lead you will:

• Have strong stakeholder management skills and experience influencing senior colleagues.

• Have experience supporting or coaching colleagues and helping teams adopt service design approaches effectively

You’ll play an important role in delivering change, while building your confidence and skills within a well established and supportive team.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about service design and eager to develop their career.

You may already have some experience in service design or similar user-centred design roles.

You do not need to know everything already. What matters is that you are curious, thoughtful, comfortable working with uncertainty, and able to turn what you learn from people into practical improvements.

We are looking for people who:

• Have experience or knowledge of user-centred design approaches

• know when and how to use service design tools and techniques (e.g. user journeys, personas, workshop facilitation)

• Be a strong communicator who can work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders

• Be motivated to learn, develop, and grow within the role

The Transformation team at North Yorkshire Council helps services change in practical, sustainable ways.

Our Service Design and Digital Adoption team focuses on creating accessible, efficient, and user-friendly council services. We work on a wide range of projects, from digital services and automation tools to improving customer journeys.

  • Colleagues delivering services
  • Service owners and product managers
  • Digital, data and automation specialists
  • Colleagues across the council
